１）東京ビックサイトでの再会と大学へのご案内。

弊社・浦壁は、昨年2015年5月にパシフィコ横浜で開催された、自動車関連企業のエキスポに参加しました。

そこで、米国ウェストバージニア州政府のブースを偶然訪問したのですが、そちらでジャクソン郡経済開発局(JCDA)の局長のマーク・ホイットリー様(マーク様)にお目にかかりました。右上の当社作成の手書き地図は、米国のなかでのウェストバージニア州の位置を示します。

２）日本大学理工学部電気工学科への訪問と学生さんとの交流。

同研究室の学生さん方に、マーク様御一行を出迎えてもらいました。

とんかつ弁当をマーク様、水谷様に召し上がって頂き、その後学生さんに、同大学理工学部電気工学科および同研究室、そしてご自身の研究の概要について、プロジェクタを使用し紹介してもらいました。

 

日本の大学研究室の雰囲気をほぼ初めて体験されたようで、マーク様はとても和やかに学生さんとコミュニケーションされていました。

The lab's students greeted Mark-san's group.

After they ate lunch with lunch box together, one of those students explained using a projector, the outline of Department of Electrical Engineering of CST in the university, the laboratory, and his research.

 

Mark-san seemed to have the first experience of the mood of the Japanese university laboratory, and had very amicable communication with the students.

 

 

 

 

３）同学科の大貫先生の研究室をご訪問。

Visit to the laboratory of Dr. Ohnuki of the same department.

その後、マーク様御一行に、少しキャンパスの散策（学科受付へのご挨拶を含め）をしながら、別のビルに所在する同じ学科の大貫先生の研究室を訪問して頂き、同先生をご紹介いたしました。

 

大貫先生は、自己紹介をして下さり、米国での研究のご経験、現在の研究の概要をご説明して下さいました。米国でのご経験や、お知り合いにウェストバージニア大学の先生がいらっしゃることから、マーク様は大貫先生に親近感を持って下さったようでした。

Then, walking around the campus (including greeting the reception office of the department), they visited the laboratory of Dr. Ohnuki of the same department and met Dr. Ohnuki there.

 

Dr. Ohnuki had self-introduction and explained the research life in the U.S. and the outline of the current research. Because he has many experiences in the U.S. and has an acquaintance of a faculty member of West Virginia University, Mark-san looked like he had affinity with Dr. Ohnuki.

 

 

 

 

４）同学科の西川先生と学生さんとの交流。Communication with Dr. Nishikawa of the same department and his student.

15:00少し前、マーク様御一行は、最初の研究室の部屋に戻り、同学科の西川先生と先生の学生さんに、お会いされました。

 

西川先生は、ご自身の研究室や現在の御研究の概要、特に太陽光発電に関して、ご説明して下さいました。

マーク様は先生の太陽光発電の発電量予測や故障分析・診断の御研究を興味深くお聞きになり、さらに、蓄電についての御研究をされていないかお尋ねになっていました。

 

学生さんは、今年4月に4年生になり、ご自身の研究を始める直前で、これからどのような研究をしたいかについて、プレゼンテーションをされました。

マーク様から、将来どのような職業を目指されているのか等、いくつかご質問を受け、学生さんは英語で熱心に答えていました。

Shortly before 15:00, they went back to the room of the first laboratory, and met Dr. Nishikawa and his student there.

 

Dr. Nishikawa explained the outline of his laboratory and the current research, especially about Photovoltaic (PV) generation.

Mark-San listened with much interest to his research on the prediction of output of power generation and the failure analysis or diagnosis. And more, he asked whether he was researching on the PV storage or not.

 

His student became the 4th year in April, and was just before starting his research. He did the presentation on what kind of research he wanted to do.

Mark-san asked him several questions like what kind of jobs he wanted to head for in the future.

The studnet was answering them eagerly in English.

 

 

 

 

５）ウェストバージニア州と日本の関係のさらなる発展を願って。

Hoping the more advance of the relationship between West Virginia and Japan.

15:30頃全部の予定が終了し、浦壁が最寄り駅のタクシー乗り場までご案内し、マーク様御一行をお見送りいたしました。

 

今回のご訪問で、

 

1) マーク様側にとって、日本の大学の一端を知って頂き、日本の大学関係者とのつながり持って頂くこと
2) 大学側において、学生さんにとって、教育上のメリットとして英語のネイティブスピーカーと交流すること、教員にとって、学生さんにそのようなことを経験してもらい、またマーク様とのつながりをもつこと

 

と、双方にwin-winの収穫があったとすれば、弊社として誠に幸いです。

弊社は、ウェストバージニア州についてとても親近感を感じ、同州と日本の関係のさらなる発展に貢献できましたら光栄です。

Around 15:30, all schedules were finished. Urakabe took them to the taxi stand at the nearest train station and saw them off.

 

In this time's visit,

 

 1) in Mark-san's side, to know about one sample of the situation which the Japanese university is put on, and make connections with people in it
 2) in the university side, for the students, to commucate with a native speaker in English for educational merits, and for the faculty members, to have students experience such things, and make connections with Mark-san

 

if in the above points, there were win-win harvest in both sides, Bezalel is very happy.

 

Bezalel is much grateful to the people who cooperated to this visit, Mark-san, and Mizutani-san.

Bezalel had affinity with West Virginia so much, and will be honored if it can contribute to the more advance of the relationship between the state and Japan.
